School Library Journal/Series Made Simple, April 2017

Sports fans will rejoice at these short but informative biographies. By featuring players such as Kris Bryant and Cam Newton, who have only come into prominence over the last couple of years, this series is truly welcome. Each volume opens with a dramatic reenactment of a key on-field moment, followed by a chronological overview of the athletes’ careers. Emphasis is placed on their achievements and charitable qualities or giving (e.g., Cam Newton’s generosity toward young fans), though not much is provided about their personal lives. Readers will appreciate the clean layouts and lively images, a few of which are childhood photos. VERDICT Sure to be a hit with elementary schoolers.
