It’s Great to Be a Fan in Illinois

Taking a geographical approach to fandom, the Sports Nation series (12 titles) looks at professional and collegiate teams as well as other popular activities for spectators within a particular state. The Illinois volume opens with a historical overview of the state’s history before discussing the Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Bears, and Blackhawks, introducing the major university teams, and mentioning the many sports activities attracting Illinois fans. Written in straightforward sentences and printed in large type with widespaced lines, the text is informative and accessible for young readers. Throughout the book, action photos and other colorful illustrations brighten the presentation. Individual series volumes will primarily interest young sports fans within the states discussed. The set also includes books on California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. — Carolyn Phelan
